REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY

 What is Registered Massage Therapy?

The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue & joints of the body and the treatment & prevention of physical dysfunction & pain of the soft tissues & joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain.

A BC Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) has completed a 3000 hour specialized education program and has successfully met all the many requirements to be licensed under the Health Professions Act.

Massage therapy helps to improve functioning of the circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, immune, musculoskeletal, and nervous systems. Physically, it helps improve the rate at which the body recovers from injury and illness. Psychologically, it reduces emotional stress levels, giving people an overall sense of well being and relaxation.

What Does a Massage Therapy Appointment Entail?

On your first appointment you will be asked to fill out some paperwork on your past health history and your current health conditions. Then, you will have a consultation with your Massage Therapist so they can better create a treatment plan for you. After the consultation, you will receive the full length of your desired treatment, followed by homecare instructions and, if appropriate, further treatment recommendations.

Massage Therapy Treatments & Techniques:

In our clinic we include Swedish massage, Neuromuscular & Deep Tissue therapy, Myofascial Release, Joint Mobilization, Remedial Exercise, and some hydrotherapy including the use of Thermophores, Hydrocollators, Paraffin Wax baths, and Hot/Cold Stone Therapy.

Rehabilitative Massage

This typically focuses on a particular body part. It is useful for pain relief, increasing joint range of motion & tissue nutrition, & decreasing scar tissue & swelling. It encourages healing of acute/chronic injuries.

Sports Massage

This focuses on muscles/joints relevant to a particular sport. It involves different techniques while in training, during sports activity and after a sports event. This is useful for injury prevention & performance enhancement.

Stress Relief Massage

This is a soothing, slow, rhythmical treatment varying from light to deep pressure. The main purpose is to evoke a calming effect on the nervous system while also aiding circulation, digestion, & muscle tissue health.

Stone Therapy Massage

The deep penetrating heat from basalt stones as well as the soothing cold from marble stones are used to help improve the lymphatic, circulatory, & immune systems, and to assist the body in self healing. This is a full body treatment providing a deeper dimension of relaxation, health & wellness.

Maintenance/Preventative Massage

In order to maintain the results achieved from rehabilitative massage, or to help prevent any future injuries from occurring, regular “check up” treatments are recommended—this supports a healthy lifestyle.

Pre/Postnatal Massage

This is useful throughout all stages to improve sleep, reduce muscular imbalances and pain associated with postural changes, reduce headaches & leg cramps, manage symptoms of swelling & compression syndromes, and to decease stress & anxiety.

We have an electric lift massage table which is comfortable for patients of all shapes, sizes and physical abilities. It adjusts both in length and width and offers a “belly well” to support pregnant women up to full term & throughout nursing.
